What is Midjourney

In a saturated creative world being different and standing out has become a Unicorn….the rarest of things akin to myth.

AI is now showing its birth into the Creative field, rightly or wrongly, of help or concern…time will tell but aside from our emotional response to a world of AI and tech progress can AI enrich and open our minds?

What is Midjourney

“Midjourney is a research lab and the name of the lab’s artificial intelligence program that creates images from textual descriptions, similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E. The tool is currently in open beta. The British magazine The Economist used the program to create the front cover for an issue in June 2022.” As described on Wikipedia.

What is DALL·E 2

“DALL·E 2 is a new AI system that can create realistic images and art from natural language descriptions. DALL·E 2 can make realistic edits to existing images from a natural language caption. It can add and remove elements while considering shadows, reflections, and textures.” Check out more about DALL·E 2 on openai.com.

A young and talented architect William Garner discusses the abilities of DALL·E 2 in architectural conceptualisation and the results of combining it with Midjourney after testing for a month. William thinks it is safe to conclude that each DALL·E 2 and Midjourney has distinct advantages. However, at this point, Midjourney can be more “creative” and provide the ability to explore more imaginative thinking. Still, DALL·E 2 feels more literal and has the power to take control through targeted editing.

That said, the question remains, does AI compliment or take over from the creative mind. It’s an uneasy question to reflect on but does exactly that, forces you to reflect because the reality of an unreal concept is that it’s more powerful and unpredictable than our own minds making it simply more interesting and engaging.

How these concept mind to the real world is the flip-side of the argument, however is the future one fused with the unreal and visual reality?….will this spawn a bond between the real and unreal where the distinction between the two is almost undetectable in its detail and realness other than the unbelievable design of the space and structures you can inhabit.

AI definitely challenges the unreal world to a point where we start to dream of its creations and in that see our selves wanting more and I think this is the power of AI, like a good storey and a fable the mind feels comfortable in those worlds, however unreal in reality and yet to one day walk in anything close to AI generated….well, I guess we shall have to wait and see. For now AI is tethered to silicon but linked to our minds and perhaps where the comfortable medium lies. A useful chained tool….?
